Own funds and commercial bank loan

When you decide to start the private accommodation business you will need to have some initial capital either for buying the property or for renovation of the existing one. The first option you have is to finance your business from your own funds. But, if that amount of money is not enough for your wants and needs, you will need to find money somewhere else. Then you can go to the bank and ask for a loan. If you are already renting a private accommodation and you want to expand and/or improve your business, the bank will ask you for current business documentation to ensure that you will be able to repay your loan.

Government incentives

An option to obtain funds is state grants and subsidies.

The Ministry of Tourism (MINT) often runs programs aimed at improving accommodation facilities that may include renovation, upgrading or extension, or additional facilities such as swimming pools. Check out their www site regularly (under Calls for proposals/funding).

Another sources is the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR)

Another good funding source option is Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and development (HBOR). One of the main activities of HBOR is supporting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and it is giving loans to support tourism industry. Purpose of that loans can be:

  • initial funding
  • land plots, buildings
  • equipment and devices
  • ships and other vessels
